Why is clinical researching important? In my opinion, it has to do with value. If a company are willing to put money into testing and developing it is a sign of trust in their own product. And also a sign of determination deliver value to you and your dog.
A smart smooth sales pitch can everyone do. If the food actually “works” shows only when tested in bigger numbers of dogs. This is especially true when you are using food for arthritis or some other disease.
On my clinic i have Royal Canin dog food (many speels it "Royal Canine dog food", easy mistake to do) and they do lots of clinical trials. I find them one of the best commercial dog food brands to do trials and develope new foods.
Price and Value
There are several ways to calculate a price of a product. The price is never only what you are paying in the raw amount of money. The price is also what you are saving using the product (or in this case dry dog food)

Not using this diet will cause pain and irritation in your dog and in your wallet as well. Using the food will prevent the need of visiting your veterinarian and you will save money.

I cannot underline how important it is to try it. Often dog food is recommended from a friend or a veterinarian. But it's not a guaranty that your dog find it being the best dry dog food even if it is the best commercial dog food.
