Diabetes and Food

HELLO MY WOLF HYBRID 12 YEARS OLD AND HAS DIABETES WHAT FOOD WOULD YOU RECOMEND FOR HER THANKS SO MUCH TRUDY

My Comment:

Normally, being a vet I would go for some of the normal diabetes diets from Royal Canin or another "Veterinary Food"

On the other hand, high protein content in humans has shown good effects on the blood sugar levels.

Some vets in Sweden advocate raw meat as a supplement to the regular diabetes dog food.

This could be explained as a method of slowing down the uptake of food, and thereby less rise in blood sugar (meaning less need of insulin)

Not being able to give you any specific advice regarding choice of food (this is up to your vet.)
you should be aware of possible choises.

Dry dog food contain more "sugars" than canned. So in some patients this might be a better option.

Most important is the blood sugar and how well the diabetes is controlled.

The best food is the one which best helps the blood sugar to be stable.

Hmm...treating diabetes is difficult and depends on many factors. Try a normal diabetes diet, but be open to try high protein food if it dosn't work (if liver and kidney are OK)

All the best
