Dog Health - Red Skin on the Belly

by Tonya
(Surrey)

What does it mean if my dog has redness on and around her nipple and on her belly?

My Comment:

Hi

This is not possible to tell you exact.

But, if I should answer your question from the assumption she is having a painless non oozing red area around the nipple, I would think is most likely is some reaction in the skin or in the mammary gland.

Sometimes dogs can start to lick themselves on one spot - sometimes this spot is one of the nipples.

When this is happening it looks red and after some time the nipple becomes thickened.

The skin around the nipple also becomes thickened and may look more darkish after some time.

So, look to see if she licks herself - may be this only happening during the night.

Try also to feel on the mammary glands in the area. Are they swollen or painful - might be some infection in the glands.

Is is possible for you to take a picture of the area and mail me?

You can do this by add a comment and adding a picture file whit this.

Then I may be able to be a bit more specific.

All the best and happy holidays

FEMALE WITH IRRITATED BELLY AND LICKING
by: Anonymous

Hi I have the same problem with my dog. She will be turning 8 end of the year jackrussell/foxy. Has been licking her belly for over a week and its gone reddish. Some of her nipples look swollen and one had some slight discharge. Could this be an infection or hormonal as she is not spayed yet.

Kind Regards Emma
