Home Cooked Dog Food and Home Made Dog Food Recipe

Elimination diet and home cooked dog food used as allergy diets is what this page is about.

Before you start in the kitchen and make your home cooked allergy diet prepare first. Need to find outwhat kind of protein your dog have got in the past. This is VERY important. Crucial to avoid anyfood given in the past is the basic. Talk to your Vet about this.

Be aware that the coming weeks will be very demanding to you. Making your own elimination diet is possible but lot more time consuming compared to using a prepared hypoallergenic dog food diet.

Protein

Then choose a protein source. Dogs need about 1-2g protein pr day and pr kg.

In Scandinavian we often choose between:

  • Chicken
  • Sheep or Lam
  • Fish
  • Egg
  • Duck

Choose one of these. Only one And stick to it. If you choose egg it should be prepared as the egg white contains avidin which destroys Biotin in the food. Biotin is a B-Vitamin.

100g (3 ounces) boiled meat or fish contain approx. 20g (0,8 ounces) protein.

50 to 100g (1,5 to 3 ounces) boiled fish or meat is sufficient to a 10 kg (22 Lbs) dog

Carbohydrate

Boiled Rice or potatoes (with skin) - good alternatives to chose between. Make your choice and decide for one of them. Mix about to 3-4 times the amount of protein - in weight and prepared.

Fat

This is easy - Raps seed oil is perfect.
