EPI and B12 injections

by sheryl
(bartlett, illinois)

My dog has been diagnosed with EPI for the second time. She is not of the normal case, she does not lose weight. however she has been very drowsy lately and not much stamina. The vet put her on B12 shots today for the first time because the blood test showed very low count. My questions is, are there side effects from the b12 shots because she has been laying around all day since she received the shot and how soon before she will be feeling better. I would like a second opinion if you don't mind? THank you...sheryl

My Comment:

Hi Sheryl

First - just om clarify, I cannot give any real second opinion.

To do this i would need to make a clinical examination of her.

This is not possible on the web (it sure will some day i would think!.

If you are worried about her behavior just now, please get in touch with your local vet.

....and of cause you be aware about all this.

So, is there any side effects using Vit-B 12.

Not to my knowlegde.

I have never seen any side effects in combination with treating lack of Cobalamine with B12 vit. shots.

In general it can be difficult to say exactly when a dog is getting better on the treatment.

In my exsperience often 1-3 weeks. But, i am convinced this is very individual, based on diffrences in the general health condition among the "patient dogs".

I hope this some help for you and her. But, dont hesitate to contact you veterinarian if you are very worried.

All the best to your both
