Flea and tick prevention for dogs.

My 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier has been on frontline plus flea and tick spot on since he was about 10 weeks old.Recently he has seemed to have problems with his legs shortly after I put it between his shoulders. He almost acts like he has stepped on something that hurts his paws, mostly front paws,he starts limping, but no yelping.Have you heard anything like this before? Is their anything I can give him that might be safer? A friend told me they have switched to some kind of oral pills taken monthly, because frontline seemed to cause their dog to bite his feet and scratch even though no fleas or ticks.Do you know of anything natural that works good? Thank you in advance Dr. Per.

My Comment:

Hi Danny

No I haven't heard any like this before.

I would try the tablets and they are called "Program". It is Lufenuron being the active ingredient and this is very low risk to use.

Lufenuron works only on the Flea development and inhibit the flea eggs from develope to adult fleas . It does not kill adult fleas - only acts on their exoskeleton in the development stages of the fleas.

If there is a lot of adult fleas in the area they can still jump on your dog and create a skin irritation. But the "Program" medication will prevent them from laying viable eggs so the numbers of fleas will then by time decrease.

Try this as I said it is very very safe to use.

All the best
