Function of Protein

Dog DNA - Receptor Protein

Function of protein is a fantastic travel into the body. Now you will learn what proteins are. how they are build from of the mist of DNA blueprint and into the reality of life.

What is is protein

Proteins are in general big molecules.

They are made of amino acids combined in long chains.

One protein can be made of thousands of amino acids. The order of amino acids will decide the nature of the protein. The amino chains are twisted in special turns because some amino acids attract each other, while others don't .These attraction forces will make loops.turns and twists fold the amino chain.

All this looping and turning makes the protein look like body, with a special shape if you could at it from the outside. This is important to remember. This protein folding could decide the function of protein.

How proteins are born

The dog DNA is the mother of all the proteins. DNA strains are divided in two and one acts as a blueprint to messenger RNA. Messenger RNA is transported from the cell nucleus to the cytoplasm where the proteins are made......

No- this is to difficult and to boring. Take a look on this instead and you will be amazed how protein synthesis are working!

Function of protein

Protein is tremendous important. The function of proteins are primary around five areas

  • Building and tissue maintenance
  • Transport
  • Messenger
  • Immunity

Building and tissue maintenance

Muscle, skin, eyes, tendons, connective tissue, blood, nerves and subcutis. This is just to mention a few.

Every system in the body do have protein in it. No exceptions.Often it is specialized protein.

In the skin and tendons we have collagen protein. In the blood it is haemoglobin caring the oxygen In the muscle it is the myosin protein - and so on.

Enzymes are another form of specialized protein. Almost every chemical reaction in the cell are dependant of enzymes.

These proteins need to be maintained. Important to meet the daily requirements to get the amino acids necessary. These tissues are rebuild all the time. The whole body changes all the time. Constantly being renewed. Think about this. Your dig is actually not build of the same "stuff" as 3 years ago! Strange but true.

Transport

Oxygen as a classic. Transported by the haemoglobin in the blood cells. Another could be protein in the cell membrane helping different molecules to pass the membrane.

Messenger

The cell don't have eyes. The can't really see as we can.

But they have cell receptors on their surface. Lots of them.

The combine with ex hormones and trigger a response in the cell. Proteins have a shape. This is important in receptor interlocking. Sometimes by changing a small amino acid sequence, the shape of the protein can change, making it impossible for the receptor to connect.

Hormones can be proteins as well. some examples is Vasopressin, LH , FSH Insulin and Oxytocin are some.

Immunity

The immune system reacts to strange protein. This is known in allergies or hypersensitivity.

The antibodies itself is a mix of protein and sugar. So protein is important as well in the tiniest bit of the immune system as well.

To sum it up.Proteins are everywhere doing everything!
