German Shepherd Front Leg Problem

by Mr Patrick Dease

Hi,
Have a German Shepherd 1 1/2 yr old.
Low hip scores on both parents.
Went lame at 6 months. front legs looked to be "buckling".
Dog was on an expensive high quality large dog pup food.
Tried several opyions with nothing working....
Used calcium and osteoglycan for horses and dog began to pick up immediatly.
Dog now has a single figure hip score and calcium was indeed badly needed so I don't know why it is so often discouraged when sometimes the dog is obviouslt not getting enough to go through its system.
The vet was unhelpful and gave me vitamin supplements even though I explained the dog was on the best food there was.....
Sheesh

My Comment:

Hi Patrick

I am a little confused about your story.

If you have been on one of the best foods and still your dog developing some kind of growth disturbance. Then the food must lack something even if it should be the best.

Or there must have been something else wrong somewhere. Something I can't explain from ther information in your mail.

Well, as I understand he is fine now and thats the most important.

All the best

I assume that the rate of very rapid growth must have required something extra in the diet to help.
The rapid growth spurt occured naturally but must have obviouly needed extra supplementation for the joints. That is the only explaination I can think of. He grew nicely at first but at one stage his rate of growth was very very fast for a short while. In his case the immediate recovery was obvious so short term supplement was, without doubt, a necessary intervention.Sometimes I think people need to think outside the box. Osteoglycan worked for him.
