There is no longer any doubt. Glucosamine is really having great results change disease outcome.Or is this only a coincidence? First Glucosamine StudiesThis one, I find very exiting. The glucosamine study vent on for three whole years. 212 persons diagnosed having knee arthritis got daily 1500 mg glucosamine sulfate. This is the normal human dose. Some got a placebo. Others got the active glucosamine. It was double blind so no one knew which got which. The persons on placebo and glucosamine when randomised chosen. This is the standard medical test. After three years, the 106 on placebo had mean joint space loss of 0,31mm. In the other group (receiving glucosamine) no loss or narrowing where seen. And the same for the minimum joint space. The placebo group has decreased minimum. The glucosamine group none. Some improvement in the weight-bearing test for the glucosamine group and slight worsening of the other. Glucosamine in fact could be said to be both structure-modifying and symptom-modifying. In other words, glucosamine changed the course of the disease. I find this extremely interesting and very positive.The special about this investigation is the time span. But the conclusion based on clinical and medical studies on glucosamine: The process how glucosamine is acting anti-inflammatory has just started to be revealed. The test period where 24 weeks. It was not possible to see any difference in the pain reducing effect between placebo and the glucosamine and chondroitine groups. But, better effect in the combined glucosamine/chondroitine group where seen, but not as good as NSAID. The conclusion of the trial where: In mild to moderate knee arthritis patients, glucosamine supplementing could have some positive effect in the combination with chondroitin. If the arthritis is to severe the effect would be minimal to none. Glucosamine Studies no FourThis is from Royal Canine and done on 85 dogs testing green lipped mussels extract. This is a double blind studies as well and vent on for 6 weeks. All dogs where fed the same diet six weeks prior the trial. At the begining of the trial a veterinarian made examination of all dogs to make sure they had arthritis and no other diseases. They where scored on different arthritic measurements. Six weeks later they where scored again. The result showed from 15% to 35% improvement in pain, swelling, crepitus and mobility score.
