Hypoallergenic Diet For Dogs

Hypoallergenic Diet as a prepared dog food can be very controversial. Is this fair? Well - I will not be a pro or against it.

But, hypoallergenic diet and hypoallergenic dog food, from my point of wiew, can have certainly great advantages.

Is It From Outer Space Food ?

No - its not space food even if it is special. This type of food has been used in humans for many years. It consists of protein and other nutrients which is treated in such a way that it is not likely to be a food allergen.

Allergens are often big protein molecules. Proteins can be chopped up and divided in smaller bits and pieces...and those will not trigger allergy response in the dog. They are to small to get recognized as allergens.

The chopping up is not done with Le Chef's knife but done by enzymes - and called hydrolyze the proteins.

That's how you get hypoallergenic dog food

What is Hypoallergenic Dog Food Made Of

Good quality hydrolyzed hypoallergenic dog food diets is made of the least likely ingredients that will trigger an allergy responds.

Quite often it is soy as main protein source. Soy protein are hydrolyzed - further minimizing risks of allergy reactions. Important to, is how easy the protein is digested. The body digestion will split the proteins into smaller bits, smaller and smaller bits.

Everything is making the food more and more allergy safe.

The Good....

They are easy to use. You have to use this food and nothing else. Then it is possible to see after 8-9 weeks if the symptoms are food related or not. Very practical. I think this is the main factor why I am using them a lot in my practice.

The Bad's...

It is very processed food. Many owners have worries about this.On the other hand, in studies where the nutritional level where measured in home made elimination diets - it was to low.

Using a prepared diet totally eliminates this possibility.
