Kibble and Vitamins

by Danny Jo Seymore
(Heber Springs, Arkansas)

I feed my dog Orijen kibble. It is supposed to be one of the best. My question Dr. Per is does kibble lose vitamins and minerals when it is baked? Does he need other foods besides just kibble? Thank you.

My Comment:

Yes it does.

On the other hand vitamins listed on the bag is the guaranteed amount of vitamins and minerals in the final product.

But, compared to the amount "before and after" cooking and after there is a difference.

In some dog food production kibbles are sprayed after heating and drying with a solution containing the most heat sensible vitamins.

But, again read on the bag whats in it, and you should find this in the "ready for been eaten" product if analysed.

Normally I don't recommend any extra supplements to the dogs.

Personally I think that if your dog is getting good quality dog food he or she might be better of compared to us humans.

In some cases you need to supplement, but not in a healthy normal dog.

This is a bit controversial of cause and on the net you can find loads of sites claiming different.

Easy to get confused and I don't have the solution. If you use Orijen it should be sufficient in my opinion.

All the best
