My Comment:
Hi Debra
Well, small dogs can be very picky and easily lose interest in what ever food you are buying. I don't know if this is the same for you as well, you do not mention anything about it.
Yes, she is too heavy and would benefit her great to loose weight.
Being a small dog she will not eat that much and therefore you can buy good quality dog food without spending too much money.
I have made a whole section about obesity in dogs and how to get them smaller. I think it would be good for you to follow the steps on Weight Loss For Dogs and the Best Weight Loss Diet For Dogs pages.
You can also choose a more traditional way using Royal Canin Obesity diet. This is not low carb diet but traditional weight reduction diet.
The best result is often seen if you do this by the help of your local vet. Get hep to decide the initial amount of food you should give a day (OK to uses little amounts of other food as well, as long it is same amount every day!).
The only food you shoul vary in the amount is the Obesity diet.
Measure the weight your dog once every month and adjust the obesity diet until a weight reduction is obtained from month to month. Not too fast or too slow.
Normal Royal Canin Obesity is OK to use in small dogs and they should be able to eat it properly.
All the best and thank you for your mail
