My dog has IBD and is not responding to treatment

My 8 yr old Corgi was diagnosed 4 months ago with IBD after a colonoscopy. Special diet food including Hills venison and Hills z/d plus prednisone and metronidazole have not helped. His condition is worsening. He has lost 10 lbs, is lethargic and has diarrhea several times a day and night. We are at our wits end - having consulted 4 doctors without any improvement. Most recently, the vet we consulted prescribed Cyclosporine and Sulfasalazine. The Cyclo made him vomit so we discontinued both.
He's currently eating boiled chicken and rice and broth along with some canned pumpkin. He rejected the dry dog food ( Royal Canin gastroint formula)we recently started him on after he vomited from the meds.
Can you recommend any diet or supplements? Obviously his large intestines are inflamed and notabsorbing nutrients. He's wasting away.

My Comment:

Hi

This sounds difficult to manage.

The only thing I can think of would be Entero-Chronic. This is an supplement made for IBD dogs to use instead of prednisolone.

Contains no medicines in it but has a anti inflammatory action in the intestines.

I have written about this Here

Have you tried just to use Sulfasalazine? You should not use this by its own without consulting a vet of cause. It can have some adverse reactions regarding the tear production in the eyes.

Still, if his IBD is so difficult to treat and this is the only thing is working I would still see it as an option.

Try Entero-Chronic. I really hope this can help him.

All the best

Maybe he is low on Vit B12. My dog is going through the same thing and it wasn't until he got this shot that he got his energy back
