My Jack Russell has loose stools

by Miss Newman

I have a Jack Russell he is 2 and for about 4 weeks now he has had loose stools I'm just wandering if this could have anything to do with worms, he also looks thin, we feed him half tin butchers and he also has biscuits mixed in with it twice a day. We have just recently wormed him just in case it is that., or could it be that the food is too rich for him.

My Comment:

Hi

Lot of different thing can cause diarrhea in a dog (see my "Dog Diarrhea" section)

Often it is impossible to tell exactly what have be the cause in every case. But - as I understand - still is happy and "full of beans" i suspect some kind om intestinal imbalance. This can be caused by food for example.

I would try to give him some probiotica supplement and try to feed him with food easy for him to digest for some time and see if he gets better. So, skip his normal food for days to 1-2 weeks and hopefully you see him getting better.

On homemade food suitable for this is one of the homemade hypo allergenic diets - you find them in the "Allergy" section.

When the bowel movements is normal you slowly go back or introduce the food he should have. At least 1 week should pass before he is on the new food only. You can't really do anything wrong by being to slow only by do the change too fast.

If there is no improvement at all following these advice I would take him to your local vet and get him examined.

All the best

Thank you for your advice but since I've wormed him, his bowels seem to be back to normal, hopefully I may have solved the problem, thank you for a speedy response.
