Once Broken Leg

My dog broke his leg and he just got the cast off about two months ago. He broke it in two places and one break had to have a pin put in to straighten the bones. Now that the cast is off, when he tries to walk on the leg it looks like it is bending backwards in a curvy way. I was wondering is it just going to take time for the bones to gain strength or can I give him special calcium rich foods to help?

My Comment:

Hi

This is difficult for me to give you an exact advice as two fractures are not alike.

Normally the muscles and tendons can be kind of weak during the healing period. Especially if a cast is used this is often seen.

Therefore to gain strength the leg needs some excise after the cast has been taken off. This take some time before the leg is back to normal again.

If the x-ray shows normal healing of the fracture then bending is more likely to be caused by the normal "leg weakens" during the healing period.

But as always - don't hesitate to contact you vet if you are uncertain in any way.

All the best
