Puppy Coprophagia

We recently bought a Labradoodle puppy from a breeder. He was born December 12 and weighs 18lbs. The day after we got him home, we noticed he was eating his feces. We feed him a mix of Purina One for puppies and Chicken Soup for Large Breed Puppies (half and half). As we are trying to switch him to the Chicken Soup. We prefer to fed him a more nutritional and organic food but now that he is having problems we are up for trying anything!

My Reply:

Hi

In my opinion he might not be in any deficit at all.

Often dogs can have some kind of this tendency. Often it is dog perfectly normal otherwise.

One solution you can try and one i very often recommend to my clients, is pineapple juice.

Ad 1 tablespoon on pineapple juice on his food and this often works very well.

This is absolutely without any risks and worth a try.

And let him know that you don't accept this behaviour - kindly and firm.

Do this again and again and......

Hopefully this will work for you.

Kindly

DVM Per Schonbeck

I read that a diet high in Vitamin B can increase his digestion. We are currently feeding him close to 3 cups a day as he is almost 3 months old. We love him so much but we would really like to find a solution to this problem. Making him take a pill is our last resort. We are considering trying For-Bid. Please help and thanks.
