what do you think about the Kirkland foods sold at Costco, specificly the puppy food?
My Comment:
Hi
This dog food I am not familiar with, and it was very difficult to find the homepage – in fact it was impossible.
I had to look at here to find the analysis.
A first it is positive to see chicken as the fist ingredient. As the second ingredient is listen chicken meal. Species named meat meal is very good as well.
Then it becomes a bit more....well, not really my taste.
This is from the ingredient list “...whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, egg product, beet pulp...”
This is grain based dog food, even with chicken meat is listed first, the main content in the dog food is grain of different kinds.
Grain is not dangerous, but I personally like dog food based not on grain , but meat or meat meals of premium quality.
The fat source is of good quality. It is chicken fat preserved with with mixed tocopherols and Vitamin E. This is good.
Omega ration between omega 3 and 6 is 1:6. Thats OK but the omega 3 is not of animal origin but vegetable origin. This is in my eyes is less effective. So this is a minus.
There is some salmon oil but the amount of DHA is not that big.
No sugar or artificial preservatives added by the company, which is good.
I don't know if your dog is big or small breed but the amount of calcium is OK.
To sum it all up.
If you look for grain based dog food I would say it is OK – in the middle somewhere, not a premium dog food.
All the best
