Sagging Hind Legs

by Olga Rossouw

My Labrador's hind legs are showing signs of sagging. Can I give him calcium from the shelf of a chemist and also what can I give him as an anti inflamatory. I can't afford the Vet's fees this is why I would like to go the "off the shelf" route.

Many thanks

Olga

My Comment:

Hi Olga

I don't know how old your dog is but I assume he is a old gentleman. In that case I would think it is much better to give him some kind of glucosamine/chondroitin supplementation.

Try this for 1-2 months and if he is starting to have stiff hips this could be much better.

Omega 3 - fish oil supplementation is another possibility you can try, which can be very beneficial.

Regarding use of medicine I would prefer you to phone your vet and ask him/her what to do. In general Aspirin can be used for a very short period of time. But, if any vet know your dog it is better to let him/her give advice on the phone. It should be possible to get in touch on the phone without payment or only a very little fee.

The sagging could also be caused by some nerulogic condition.

I really don't think calcium deficiency is a likley cause - not if my assumption about his age is correct.

All the best
