IS 15MG OF VITAMIN K TOO MUCH FOR MY MINATURE POODLE

My Comment:

Hi Judy

That depends on why you administer Vitamin K.

Normally you don't have to give extra Vitamin K. The main reason to give Vit. K is in warfarin or super warfarin poisons.

Is this the case you should contact you vet of cause.

The dosage of Vitamin k in treatment of rat poison toxicity, varies and in general I use from 0,25-5mg/ kg and divided in 2 or 3 dosages during the day.

The duration of the treatment vary as well and should be decided by a veterinarian.

Sometimes you need to give the treatment for 4 weeks in cases where super warfarin is ingested. Other times 5-7 days could be sufficient.

You may have to check the clotting time to see if treatment has been suficient so it is nothing you should decide your self.

Vitamin K is water soluble and therefor an excess is not toxic but excreted in the urine.

All the best to you and I hope this could help you
