Weight Loss is Impossible

I have a small dog she needs to loose at least 5 pounds -have tried different weight management foods, smaller portions, more vegetables no treats other than vegetables ,more excersize, all to no or little weight change
She has had different medical tests & blood work to rule out medical problems
She is only 4 years old
Is there a weight loss supplement or a food you recommend??
I have been feeding her an excellent weight loss food (dry) plus vegetables (green beans) & or carrots FOR OVER A YEAR (ALSO PORTION CONTROL)& HAVE NOT HAD MUCH SUCCESS
please help !!
Thank you,

My Comment:

Hi

Yes it can be a problem in some situations to get the extra weight off again.

I do not have any miracle food or any thing like this but I have dedicated a whole page on my site just about the best weight loss dog food.

You find "best weight loss dog food Here.

Now - I don't know what you have tried for dog foods. But most (if not all of them) of the major veterinary brands are very high in carbohydrates. I think this can in some situations make the slimming process difficult.

Another important thing in my experience would be to weigh your dog every month at a vets place. Just to have someone which can support you and guide you is important. This often helps my clients a lot.

You can of cause also keep track of your dogs weight at home but most of my clients ....well, it becomes one of those "I'll do it tomorrow" things. To make an appointment for weight control helps them to get it done. It also helps them to continue when nothing happens for a while or when it happens share their happiness with someone (me in this case).

You might not have this problem at all. In general it is a great help at least.

If you live where you can buy EVO Weight Management dog food it might be worth a try as it contains a lot less carbohydrates and therefore trigger the insulin system minimal.

It's not possible to buy here in Sweden but I would regard it to be one of the best weight loss and weight management foods on the market.

All the best

Try Hill's R/D canned
by: Karen

Our tiny min-pin had NO problem losing weight on this canned food! He was a few extra pounds overweight, which is a LOT for a 9 pound dog. It has so much fiber in it that within a few months he was back to his normal weight. Of course he was going outside to poop all the time. I think this food is the best for weight loss. We had him on the canned Hill's R/D. If you try it, make sure your dog is getting a lot of water, too. I mixed the water in with the food and made a buttery smooth, soft spread and laid it out on a plate and made it look like he was getting more food than he actually was. You can find it online at many online retailers. I ordered from nationalpetpharmacy.com and found coupon codes for discounts or free shipping at retailmenot.com and couponcabin.com. Good luck!

Weight loss for small dog
by: Sheila, Canada

I have had great success in my Norwich losing 3lbs. since January 2011 using Acana Light & Fit 1/2 cup (162 calories) and 1/4 cup Honest Kitchen dehydrated (varies in calories), my dog is nearer her ideal weight of 12lbs. It's a slow process. If you want to do just kibble the Acana is 325 calories per cup, very low but maintaining a higher protein, lower fat and very moderate carbs.
Find an online calculator such as one used on Dogfoodadvisor.com. If you put in the ideal weight, activity level it tells you how many calories per day your dog should get for weight loss etc. It's all about calories in and calories used. You can cut back amounts on any high quality dog food, just figure out the calories.
